The Rare 1967 Chevelle

When it comes to collecting old cars, tastes usually differ due to cultural upbringing. While European aficionados typically gravitate towards the subtle elegance of British, German, and Italian car manufactures, many Americans are drawn towards the loud and extroverted machismo of the American muscle cars.

Though there are many kinds of muscle cars prized for their performance, some are valued for their rarity as well. One of these is the vaunted 1967 Super Sport Chevelle. Its styling speaks of barely leashed power; even at a standstill it seems like it’s about to pounce. Though its looks differ only slightly from the 1966 model, with the addition of a horizontal bar grille and a change in the location of the tail lights, under the hood it is a different animal altogether.

If you ever get a chance to see one of these babies at an auction, you’ll soon discover just how much money it would take to buy one of these classics, especially if it was outfitted with one of the more enhanced powerplants.

One of the dream versions of this classic is the 1967 model with the original L78 engine with 375hp. Thousands of those Chevelles were made in 1966, but for some mysterious reason only a little more than 600 were made in 1967.

With such a few number built originally, no wonder this car is among the most prized collectible in auctions and car shows. Great power and rarity is a combination that makes this Chevelle worthy of a place in any car collection.
